Scouting report
Egbert had been a durable, consistent starter, but has struggled out of the bullpen. Unfortunately, 2009 ended this trend. Egbert put up a dismal second half to 2009 and saw his prospect status almost entirely evaporate. He got lit up in a short cup of coffee, but he was coming out of the ‘pen after starting in the minors. Stuff wise, Egbert features a high 80s sinker, a curve which he consistently throws for strikes and a plus changeup. He has good control and gets lots of groundballs. For a groundball pitcher, he has put up good strike out numbers as a starter, but likely won’t get a shot in the Sox rotation because they have a young core of starters and others ahead of him on the depth chart (Poreda if he gets converted back into a starter and Hudson).
Major League Outlook: 5th starter
ETA: Whenever he gets a shot
