Sox Sign First Round Pick Jared Mitchell

By Jeff Buchanan

Today, the Chicago White Sox agreed to terms with their first round pick from the 2009 MLB draft, Jared Mitchell.

Mitchell, a speedy outfielder and former WR at LSU, will report to Kannapolis and is expected to make his professional debut in Thursday’s game against Lakewood.

Mitchell enjoyed a successful career at LSU, with his crowning moment coming when he was named the Most Outstanding Player of this year’s College World Series. He’s still quite raw as a baseball player, but if all goes well we could see him on the South Side in two years.

Terms of the deal have not yet been released, but the slot bonus for the 23rd pick is estimated at $1.26m. Update: Baseball America reporting the signing bonus is $1.2m.
