Upchurch was a very good prospect out of high school that fell in the draft because of his commitment to Auburn. The Sox signed him for above slot and landed a pitcher that projects out pretty well. His fastball currently sits in the low 90s and scouts think he might be able to add more velocity as he fills out. It also has decent movement. He has a very good changeup that will keep him as a starter. His breaking stuff has been inconsistent, but can be very good at times. If Upchurch can add more velocity and be more consistent with his secondary pitches, he will be an excellent prospect.
