Hot and Cold 8/11
By Jeff Buchanan
Hot Pitcher: John Ely
Leading off for the Hot and Cold list this week is John Ely. In his last two starts Ely has thrown a combined 13 scoreless innings for the Barons, striking out 9, walking 2 and giving up 8 hits. That’s good for a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERA and 0.769 WHIP. On the season Ely has a 10-2 record, 2.88 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
Hot Hitter: Seth Loman
Over his last 7 games Seth Loman is hitting a robust .407 for the Dash with 3 home runs, 2 doubles and a 1.250 OPS. Between two levels this year Loman is hitting .296 with 18 home runs and a .931 OPS. Loman’s attitude has been questioned in the past and supposedly that is why the Angels let him go but he can really hit. Hopefully we see him in a more age appropriate league next season so we can find out if he’s a legitimate prospect or not.
Cold Pitcher: Stephen Sauer
There weren’t a lot of cold pitchers for Sox affiliates over the past week, but in Sauer’s last two starts he has a 6.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP. Walks have been Sauer’s main problem as he gave up 3 walks in each of those two starts, very uncharacteristic for him. On the season Sauer has a 3.20 ERA and 1.30 WHIP along with a very good 2.83 GO/AO.
Cold Hitter: Jordan Danks
There were many candidates to choose from for cold hitter of the week, but Jordan Danks just edges it with his .120/.185/.120 (.305 OPS) slash line from his past 7 games. Jordan has really been struggling since he came off the DL and for the season he is hitting .284 with an .807 OPS. I don’t think Jordan is as close to the Bigs as was once thought and he may need another full season in the Minors.
