White Sox Acquire INF Andy Cannizaro From Indians

By Chisoxfn

CBS Sports is reporting that the White Sox have acquired journeyman infielder Andy Cannizaro from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations. Cannizaro, 30, is batting .222 in 14 career MLB games (13 with Yankees, 1 with Tampa) and spent the entire 2009 season with the Indians AAA affiliate (Columbus) where he batted, .269 with a .348 OBP.

FS Take:
No word on what the Sox plans are for Cannizaro, but I ultimately believe this move had more to do with AAA than the majors. The conspiracy theorist out there may think Cannizaro was acquired to replace Getz (who’d go on the DL), but even if Getz injury was more serious than we’ve been told (leading to a DL stint), the Sox would first turn to Brent Lillibridge.
