Scouting report
After playing in Italy in 2014, 30-year-old Junior Guerra cruised through AA and AAA in 2015, earning a brief stay with the White Sox in June in which he appeared in just three games. Guerra has a mid-90s fastball – even when working as a starter – to go along with a mid-eighties slider and a split-finger changeup with impressive depth, tail, and fastball-matching arm speed. That pitch mix has worked to the tune of 11+ K/9 at both AA and AAA in 2015. Guerra is a true surprise and pop-up guy, but his performance and stuff make him much more than a feel good story. His shorter frame and age raise questions, but somewhere along the line he figured out a good enough 2.5-pitch repertoire to be successful. Here’s an in-depth scouting report with video from fangraphs. He profiles as a potential major league middle reliever or long man.
